Sónia Trópicos

Sónia Trópicos is a producer and DJ, born and raised on Lisbon’s South Bank on the day of the Carnation Revolution. She emerged on the electronic music scene in 2022, after beginning her DIY journey within the collective Beats By Girlz, where she expanded an originally material and visual artistic practice into the realms of sound, electronic production and, later on, DJing

Her sound, influenced by sonorities from across the Lusophone spectrum, moves between rhythms and melodies that burst into melancholy and aggression. Through synthesizers, samples and rhythmic deconstruction, she challenges genre boundaries, prioritising mood, tension and contrast over fixed styles. Her music exists in the dialogue between introspection and physical movement.

In 2022, winning the PULSAR competition with her debut single “Mar Alto” marked a decisive moment in her career, leading to the release of her first EP, “Astral Anormal.” In 2023, she further deepened this language with “Singela,”consolidating a distinct artistic identity. Since then, Sónia Trópicos has continued to assert herself through production collaborations and remixes with artists such as Pedro Mafama, Anna Prior, Evaya, Vaiapraia, Mormaid and St. James Park, among others, expanding both her sonic universe and her presence within the contemporary music scene.

This trajectory has led her to appear on the line-ups of some of Portugal’s most relevant festivals, including NOS Alive, Coala Festival, Ageas Cooljazz, Festival MIL, Festival Aleste and Westway Lab. At the same time, her music has crossed borders, with international performances in cities such as São Paulo, Prague, Geneva and Amsterdam.

Live, Sónia Trópicos presents herself in two distinct formats — LIVE and DJ set. In the LIVE format, the performance unfolds through the use of voice, synths and real-time beat construction, exploring sound as a living material in constant transformation. In her DJ sets, she brings to the dancefloor a universe of references that inspire her, through a personal curation of producers, remixes, rhythms and sonorities that directly dialogue with her own practice as a producer.
